Trump's Response: Arm The Teachers

Some have lost family members, other have lost long-time friends. Many in Florida's safest city, Parkland, are devastated and breaking right now. But they're focusing on how to prevent this situation in the future, because they don't want others to have to feel the same way.

Young people have been spreading that message recently, and you can read how on our other article here. However, let's see the president's response to the attack:

The President held a listening session, something that isn't exactly rare after such incidents though very much appreciated by both sides of the aisle. He did, however, refuse the CNN invitation to their town hall in Sunrise, Florida, which lead to some survivors' criticism.

Trump heard out the suggestions from parents and some survivors of the shooting on how he can fix and prevent such incidents from ever happening again. He did seem to sympathize greatly with the parents, and did show a hint of action to come.

He suggested he'd support legislation forcing the minimum age to purchase such active riffles to 21 years old, up from 18. He also said he'd support increased background checks, saying that they were already looking into making those things official.

However, he then suggested something that drew criticism from both sides of the aisle, proven later by the GOP's Marco Rubio at the CNN town hall event.

Mr. Trump indicated his support for the armament of teachers, citing he really thinks that arming some teachers in schools can help prevent massacres like this in the future. He had to correct himself, after being misunderstood that he wanted to arm all teachers.

He re-stated that he'd support some teachers in schools like Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School be armed with guns after being put through gun training; saying he thinks that even if 20% of teachers were armed, attackers wouldn't be inclined to strike.

He underwent criticism for this speech, as his listening session audience responded and overwhelmingly told him they oppose such legislations. Trump admitted that his suggestion would be controversial, and acknowledged not everyone would back it, but didn't exactly lose support for it and is still hoping for a good-spirit debate about it.
