At least four people have been wounded as a gunman opened fire on foreigners, immigrants in the Italian city of Macerata. According to reports, the attack seems to have been racially-motivated by a former attempted politician.
Luca Traini, 28 years old, was arrested doing a fascist salute outside of a war memorial in Macerata, Italy only a small while after he conducted drive-by shootings.
Police and the mayor of Macerata said the shootings appeared to be racially-motivated and of barbaric-attacking style. The Mount Royal Times has yet to verify the severity of the four people transported to hospitals at the scene.
Only recently in the Italian city, an Italian journalist had been killed and dismembered by a man of Nigerian descent, an Italian immigrant.
The mayor of Macerata, Romano Carancini, says he does believe the killing of the Italian journalist may be a motive for the killings of these immigrants, seeing as the suspect wasn't from the town and the shooting was near to the scene of which the dismembered body of the journalist was found only days ago.
Luca Traini had been a candidate for the anti-immigration Northern League party back in the 2017 local elections of the town of Corridonia, according to election records. He didn't recieve any votes.
Italy has had a catastrophic recent years in terms of the Mediterranean immigration crisis, with millions of immigrants and refugees from northern-Africa and the middle-Eastern nations like Syria, Iraq, Sudan and Libya.
Marco Verni, the uncle of a slain woman in Mastropietro told CNN's affiliate Rai News "All we want is justice. We cannot fight barbarism with more barbarism. Such actions are not justifiable. This country is fed up -- but such reactions can never be justified."
Many Italian officials have called Traini's attack on foreigners a misrepresentation of Italian values, citing the fact that Traini had an Italian flag tied around his neck at the time of the drive-by shootings.
