In a very famous tourist spot in an intense tourist city; Rio de Janeiro's Copacabana beach has been 'attacked' by a speeding vehicle that slammed into over a dozen pedestrians and tourists; leaving an 8-month-old baby dead and 15 others injured.
Officials stated that the injured had been transported to nearby hospitals in Rio de Janeiro, meanwhile none seem to be life threatening. The infant of which has been reported killed has yet to be identified, though his age has been confirmed.
The incident was mistaken, at first, as an intention car attack on pedestrians in apparent ties with terrorism due to relevant witness ties to what could've been yet another attack of which uses a speeding vehicle as a weapon. Medics have recently said the likely reason is the driver suffered an epileptic attack while driving.
Here's some attacks, and non-attacks, involving vehicles used as weapons whether accidentally or unintentionally:
Nice, France, July 2016 — At least 87 people died and 440 people were sent to hospitals in the tourist city of Nice in France when a truck was driven through a crowd for over a mile through a crowded street of people watching a firework show for the national holiday of Bastille Day. Barcelona, Spain, August 2017 — Official reports confirmed that at least 13 died and over 120 were injured when a speeding van rammed into dozens of citizens on the crowded tourist spot known as Las Ramblas.
