A record snowstorm across multiple states and Canadian provinces battered, in specific, the city of Erie in Pennsylvania. Although the city is quite used to some white Christmas holiday seasons; it hasn't experienced this in it's long recorded history.

Officials stated that on Christmas day, a record breaking 'single-day snowfall' in Erie, up to 34 inches of snow fell onto the city in a tumbling effect. A few inches had already fallen on Christmas eve Sunday. Dozens more inches fell on Tuesday, as well.

In comparison to the Pennsylvanian city's former records; this year crushed them by far and it's no skeptic to say that new records were set this Christmas 2017. The previous Christmas day snowfall record was 8.1 inches. This year's was 34 inches. The previous single-day snowfall in their history was 20 inches back in 1956; battered over 14 inches above the previous record this year.

All the meanwhile the two-day snowfall record was also broken this year. According to the Weather Channel and numerous other sources; the record set this year was 59 inches within only two days; a massive amount.

For our Canadian viewers; 2.8 feet (86 cm) fell on Christmas day in comparison to the city's 0.7 feet (21 cm) previous record. The 2.8 feet (86 cm) single-day record also broke the city's all-time single-day snowfall record of 1.7 feet (51 cm). Between Christmas and Tuesday; 4.9 feet (148.6 cm) of snow fell on Erie, Pennsylvania.

However it's important to keep in mind the Christmas Eve snowfall, though not record breaking, was the start of the snow storm that battered this city. According to sources, a total of 63 inches of snow fell throughout the three-day storm, with more snow on the way for Wednesday. That's nearly 5.3 feet of snow; or 160 cm.

Oh - and if we didn't mention it already - it's not over.

Meteorological sources to the Mount Royal Times are reporting that yet another snow storm might batter the east coast and Quebec for the second major holiday of this holiday season. In fact; we may just walk into 2018 with many more feet of snow.

According to one of our meteorologists, the province of Quebec as well as states of New York, Vermont, New Jersey and Pennsylvania are expected to see the worst of the storm. Other states including Massachusetts shouldn't expect to be sparred, though, seeing as this is yet to be confirmed as the forecast remains skeptical.

The snowfall may disrupt this year's New Years Eve ball drop party in New York City, though it hopefully won't. For cities like Erie, of which have already been declared an 'emergency disaster scene', the future looks bland.
