Police have confirmed that a home-made bomb containing 200 grams of explosives as well as shrapnel has detonated in one of Russia's biggest cities; St Petersburg. Officials believe that this incident is a deliberate attack on Russian citizens.
The apparent intentional bombing of the supermarket comes only days after Christmas; a wide-range Christian holiday targeted by a massive terror plot in the Russian city of St Petersburg foiled with the aid of the CIA only weeks ago.
It also comes only a while after a bombing of a St Petersburg metro station killed up to sixteen people and injured more than 50 other citizens. ISIS claimed responsibility for the metro station terror attack; as well as being blamed for the foiled terror plot on the St Petersburg cathedral and nearby shopping mall.
Citizens were evacuated not only from the supermarket itself, seeing as the explosion did injure up to 10 people, but nearby buildings also evacuated their citizens and pedestrians vacated nearby streets of the city's center block.
At this time, police have confirmed that the explosive was placed in a locker behind the scenes of the major shopping area. It's unconfirmed whether a manhunt is underway for the suspect of the attack, who is not believed to have been injured.
Police opened a 'criminal investigation' into the attack. Due to a lack of proof and support that the bombing was terror-related, they are waiting for any indications to label the explosion as an act of terror.
