The Islamic State has now claimed responsibility for a suicide terror attack that was carried out on the streets of Kabul, Afghanistan on Christmas day. Police, medical agencies and US intelligence agencies have confirmed at least six have died, with three others being injured. IS used the death counts in their claim of responsibility.
According to our sources, the suicide bombing was conducted right outside of Afghanistan's intelligence agency compound. The attacker was also killed in the attack, and the IS claimed the attacker to be 'one of [their] militants'.
In their claim of responsibility, they said that six had been murdered and three others had been 'martyred' in the Christmas day ambush in Afghanistan. Afghan officials said the attack shows how desperate the Islamic State was this holiday season.
Although ISIS had plotted some enormous scale attacks across major western countries like the US, the UK and Australia as well as an enormous attack in Russia being foiled with the help of the CIA; all of their plots had been shut down. This may be what prompted the quickly thought out Afghan intel bombing on the Christian holiday.
In the US; the FBI helped foil a large scale terror attack planned to strike Pier 39 of San Francisco; a known tourist hub. It's known for accumulating thousands of people at many given times. The attack's scheduled date was December 25th.
In Australia; officials stated, a few weeks ago, that they had foiled a massive terror plot on the city of Melbourne. It comes nearly a year after a radical Islamist terror attack killed six in the city; back in January 2017. The attack had been plotted to strike Flinders Street, a known tourist and trafficked pedestrian area of the city. The street, although avoided an IS attack, had still been struck with a form of intentional car attack that had hospitalized 18 people only a few days before Christmas.
In the United Kingdom; officials reported that four at-home police raids ended with four arrests in two Northern-England cities/townships. Officials stated all of them had ties to Islamic-State plots to terrorize the UK around Christmas. Although the information was limited, they expressed their beefed security concerns on the holiday.
In Russia; the CIA along with many Russian intelligence agencies helped foil and crush a massive terror plot to terrorize St. Petersburg's largest cathedral. The attack was believed to have been scheduled for Christmas. Numerous attackers had been arrested by Russian police who also believe that the attack would've spread into a nearby mall, metro station, etc. that could've killed potential hundreds.
A Mount Royal Times analysis concluded, only days before Christmas, that the five most threatened countries for terrorism this year's holiday season are (in order): United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Italy and France.
Luckily for citizens of these nations, they were all sparred from any known carnage intended to kill citizens on their largest holiday. Although the holiday season isn't over, and we've realized in the past that ISIS has had many failed terror plots intended to wreak havoc on New Year's Eve, we believe 2017 - a relatively quiet year - should end on a realistically good note.
