America has, for the past 70 years, been involved in one of the world's largest growing controversies surrounding the Holy City of Jerusalem. The city has been considered one of the most contested regions in the world, let alone the middle-east.
Jerusalem is part of Israel and is considered a Holy City and major key region for the Jewish religion. It is also claimed as Christianity's most influential cities after the Vatican, and can be considered one of Islam's key cities. A city surrounded by different countries each claiming their own part of the town.
Not only is the city hailed as a Holy City for three of the world's most influential and largest religions, but the city's population of nearly one million (1,000,000) has been the target of terror attacks by Palestinians, radical Islamist of the terror groups Hezbollah, ISIS, Al-Qaeda, Al-Shabbab and many others.
The reason for the attacks by Palestine has been the future-state's declaration that a large part of Jerusalem is Palestine's capital. This is during an enormous and long-lasting rivalry and war between the two.
Israel has also been involved in controversy, war and threats following their claimed occupation of Syria's Golan Heights region - which has also been terrorized. The country, made of mostly of Jews, have been under threat by virtually all it's surrounding nations however is protected by the United States.
Although previous administrations by Democrats and Republicans in the United States have promised to recognize Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel, nobody has actually backtracked the long-lasting policy of the US government to avoid rising any conflict in the Holy City that has been under intense threat for over seven decades now.
Donald Trump made the declaration of Jerusalem as Israel's capital a 2016 campaign promise. During his announcement, he called out previous administrations for promising to declare the city it's rightful title and said he would do what was 'clearly right'. Though, he became under extreme heat by world leaders following the declaration.
Not only did Trump announce that the US has officially recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital city, but he has also announced that he organized that the US embassy, currently located in Tel Aviv, will be relocated to the capital in Jerusalem.
Trump, along with the White House and many government officials in Washington, have said that the declaration would rush a peace process between Israel and Palestine, though left out controversies between religious beliefs in the town and the fact that Palestine is also claiming the city to be their capital.
European leaders 'attacked' the US Secretary of State bombarding him with denouncements of Trump's decisions to declare Jerusalem the recognized capital of Israel saying it would hinder any form of peace process in the country. Other nations, including Canada, have governments that don't support recognizing Jerusalem as the country capital knowing it could virtually instantly spark controversy and conflict between Palestinians and Israelis.
Palestine has shown in the past that it is willing to fight to protect it's self-proclaimed capital city. In fact, most worldwide nations recognize nearly half of the city of Jerusalem as occupied by Palestine due to wars and conflicts.
Other Arabic and north-African nations have condemned Trump's decisions saying it can easily, and probably will, re-initiate wars and conflicts in the Israeli region. With the fight involving ISIS right nearby, and Israel's very intense and threat-filled future ahead of them, initiating a controversy to 'rush peace' won't work easily.
