North Korean military shoots own militant 5 times for trying to defect to the South

The DMZ, the very strict border between North and South Korea is among the most tense borders in the world. With any small errors, a full-out war can spark. There lays militants from both the North and the South, only meters apart from each other, weapons easily drawn and ready for use.

Not too long ago South Korea's military fired warning shots as 12 soldiers from the North gathered in a threatening swarm across the border.

More than 1,000 people defect across the DMZ, usually Northerners moving into South Korea for a better life and to escape the rogue regime, every year. However this day in particular saw a rare coincidence: two people crossing at nearly the same place going each to different countries; met both with response from different forces.

Earlier in the day, a South Korean attempted to defect into North Korea and abandon the South due to his own political beliefs and reasons. South Korea's military soldiers of which are put in place to guard the border arrested the man who attempted to flee.

Later on through the day, as that specific location remained on edge following the attempted defect into the North, a North Korean colonel at the scene attempted to defect into South Korea and abandoning his own country.

However, other North Korean militants of which were standing right beside the suspect who tried to flee his country shot the man 5 times as he made his move to run across the tense border. South Korean officials reacted by drawing their weapons and shouting.

According to a source, the panic at the scene was vivid. As they saw the man who began to run, also with a weapon in his pocket, all militants drew their weapons. As North Koreans opened fire on the man; all panic let loose.

South Korean militants ended up crawling through the official DMZ to reach the man who had been shot. They aimed their guns at North Korean soldiers who threatened to kill Southern militants that tried to reach for the victim.

However, the man was taken in by South Korea's military and is seeking medical attention. That is the latest brought to us thus far.

The tension shows every time an incident like this occurs. It's very common for gunshots to ring out on the DMZ, in fact. It happens every so often due to tensions, or defects, or simply for the fear of war and conflict.
