Hundreds dead, thousands hospitalized in huge Iraq-Iran earthquake
Official confirmations have made their way to the public eye regarding a horrid earthquake in Iraq right near the Iranian border. The earthquake shook up the Eurasian plates. The powerful shake registered a 7.3 magnitude on the Richter Scale.
The earthquake had shattered homes, fully collapsed buildings and killed hundreds of people. In Iraq, officials have said a minimum of 7 people are dead and over 400 are injured in a city near the epicenter of the earthquake.
The waves of the quake were felt as far as western Turkey and Pakistan, also felt quite considerably strong in Lebanon, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Jordan. However it's no shock that the majority of the fatalities and damages were reported in Iran.
Back in 2003, the deadliest earthquake in the region had killed nearly 24,000 people with a magnitude of 6.6. Although this earthquake is a 7.3, it's severity and damage as well as the fatalities is considerably lower though still high.
Current reports to MR Times has signified that up to 498 are killed and up to 6,430 are hospitalized following the earthquake.
The earthquake was large enough to trigger the Iraqi and Iran governments to issue advisories to it's citizens to avoid standing near buildings. Severe damage to buildings had extended as far in as Baghdad and Tehran, though were not felt as severe in those two capital cities of the two countries.
Iraq has been trying to recover it's infrastructure following war that extended throughout the region for the past few decades. Iraq, as well as Syria, has been quite an unstable region within past years specifically due to the fight against ISIS.
